My Plea

Dear Friends,

As some of you know, I have chronic kidney disease. Unfortunately, it is progressing rapidly. At this point, I will need dialysis unless I find a kidney transplant first.

Finding a kidney is no simple project. I am working with multiple hospital transplant centers across the country. Their lists are for cadaver kidneys only and the wait averages between 5 and 10 years. Because of the extremely long waiting lists for cadaver kidneys, the patient often needs to go into dialysis before a transplant becomes available. However, dialysis patients frequently do not survive the long wait for a transplant.

There are healthy people willing to donate one of their kidneys to save someone’s life. If I can find a living donor, I will be able to receive a new kidney without waiting years on a list. Moreover, kidneys from living donors are generally stronger and last longer than cadaver kidneys.

I am writing to ask each of you to be a networker for me to help me find a living kidney donor. I would much appreciate it if you could get the word out that you have a friend who is looking for a live donor. It is impossible to cast your circulation net too wide so please reach out to as many people and/or organizations as possible and please ask them to do the same.

I can’t thank you enough.

Charles Bock
